more on nydn bloggers

So I think Ben Smith left his dirty laundry on the floor between our desks. Yuck! I left it on his chair to greet him when he comes in tomorrow.
Also, fellow NYDN blogger Sam Borden thinks “Eye of the Tiger” is “the best song to have playing as you run on a treadmill.” C’mon … he may know baseball but not his running music…

A close-up of the incriminating sock…

Looks like you got major coverage there at gawker. That can’t be sitting well with the top brass, eh?

um, yeah it got me in some hot water. I was just trying to be funny and figured it was just a sock, not exactly scandalous or private. I’d never really expose someone’s dirty laundry on this blog and make a habit of asking people before I post conversations, etc. to which I am party. Thankfully Ben has a sense of humor, but I guess from now on I’ll make sure I get permission before I post sock-pictures as well…
P.S. I guess some of my co-workers are miffed as well. But as reporters they should know the difference between a public figure and a private person! Ben Smith, bless his heart, is definitely within the context of the blogosphere a public figure and thus I figured was fair game for a little gentle ribbing. (It was a PICTURE OF A SOCK, for gosh’s sake). But just because I poked a little fun at him doesn’t mean I would do it to any of my non-blogging co-workers …. actually after today’s reaction I will steer clear of poking fun of anyone ever connected to work again.
But the bottom line is, bloggers are supposed to stir things up. Blog wars are good, as Ben told me in a slightly different context. If two month from now I’m the only one who has poked fun at Ben, that’ll mean he’s failed as a blogger because no one has been paying attention to him.

Wow Derek, hitting the big time with the gawker coverage. Hope no one was too pissed.
On a completely unrelated note, Prof. Thom’s sometime next week?

Just a sock? Just a sock!??!
Was it just a sock when the Red Sox lost to the Yankees?

What game are you talking about? I was thinking of Curt Schilling’s bloody sock.
Prof. Thom’s sounds good, Finy. I am thinking maybe Wednesday? Let me reach out to my people and see what’s up.
